Map Mounting
One of the things that makes
The Map Shop a little
different is that we are a one-stop-shop for maps with rails, foam-core mounts,
our special combination of rails and foam-core and the traditional framed map.
We have the manpower to make up your special order, crate it in one of our
special wooden UPS-proof boxes and get it out to you in a few days (except
December). Due
to the large variety of map sizes and mounting options we can not give you an
exact price here on our site. The best we can do is give you some estimates for
each type. Just call us at 800-532-6675 for a firm quote. Our return policy is a
bit different for these maps. The same 20% restocking charge applies and they
MUST be returned in the original crate. We reserve the right to specify some
very special map projects as "un-returnable"..
Rails... We have a whole page dedicated to our
system of rails for map mounting. Click here to read it.
Basically these are wood-grained strips attached to the top and bottom of the
map that let it hang like a tapestry.
Spring Rollers... Most of the wall maps you see can be
mounted on spring rollers. Unless it is a classroom map, it is a $95 option of
maps less than 60 inches wide. Or.. We can put virtually any
paper map on a spring by the
Easy Roller map wall map display and mounting system.
Foam-Core Mount... We hot-mount and laminate maps
in size up to 40 by 60 on 1/4 inch foam core. This is stryrofoam sandwiched
between 2 cardboard sheets. It allows you to prop the map up on a tripod, or
frame it, and/or stick pins in the map. Customers often ask, "Can I still stick
map pins through the laminated coating over the foam core mount?"
The answer is an emphatic YES! Naturally, the same is true for the Martin Mount
option below. This basic foam core mounting usually adds anywhere from $60
to $90 to the price of the map itself. This is a special order so please call us
at 800-532-6675 between 8:30a ~ 4:30p Eastern to order.
Martin Mount. We call this the Martin Mount because
it was invented by Randy Martin, a member of
The Map Shop family for
over 6 years! Randy
has skillfully combined the elegance of our wood-grained rails with the
practicality of foam core. We have put pictures of a map with this mount below.
This is a
close up of the way the rails are mounted on the map. From the front, it looks
almost as if the whole thing was framed but at price that is way below putting a
wood frame on a map this size. Foam core maps can take up to 8 business days to
prepare for shipment.

We can mount and / or frame almost any map this way but
configuring our web site to allow on-line order entry for this option with the
thousands of different map sizes is just not possible. Don't let that stop you.

Shipping a mounted or framed map to you work best when the largest
dimension on the map is 52 inches or less. Sizes above that require truck
shipment. These can run into hundreds of dollars.
>Traditional Framing. We are a fully functional frame shop
for sturdy and durable metal frames. Here is a picture of National Geographic's
Italy map with one of our frames on it.
This usually adds $80 to $150 to the
price of the map.
